Kashmir is in the northernmost geographical region of India positioned between latitudes 32° and 36° N, and longitudes 74° and 80° E. A valley within the Great Himalayas, it is a tourist attraction for people across the globe and is popular as “Heaven on Earth”. The four seasons have contrast and unique features like winter (November-Feburary) is very cold and witnesses heavy snowfall, Spring (March-May) brings in the new life in form of blooming tulips and flowers, Summer (June-August) is moderately hot and Autumn (September-October) represents season of harvest and fall. The seasons attract tourists for their own unique reasons, making tourism a major source of income, after agriculture. Despite not being explored to its full potential, there are large number of famous tourist spots which include Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonmarg, Doodpathri, Yousmarg, Bangus etc. Gulmarg is the most famous attraction which attracts tourists in equal numbers in both winter and summer, and hosts the International Winter Games festival. Located on the PirPanjal range of Himalays, it is nearly 50 KM from the capital city of Srinagar. Pahalgam is a hill resort with unmatched topography, engineered by the Lidder river. The place provides great opportunity for trekking, rafting, meditation, and has large number of attractive visiting sites in vicinity. The hill station is towards south of the valley and around 90 KM from the Srinagar. Sonamarg, called as golden meadows is famous for meadows, glaciers and fresh water streams. It connects India to Tibet through famous silk route. Other famous attractions include, tulip garden, Dal lake, Wular lake, Amarnath Temple, Patni-top, and large number of shrines. The landscape, culture and food of Kashmir are unique in multiple ways and give the place a distinctive identity.
